2014 Sunny Acre
Renovation by TMHA - SLO Wellness Oasis
The project is located in the city boundary of San Luis Obispo. It’s situated to the east of San Luis Obispo downtown, rests the building with former name of “Sunny Acres”, which is two-story brick building perched on the hillside above Johnson Avenue.
Transitions metal health association(TMHA) and city council plan to reform this site that has been vacant for more than 40 years. TMHA agency for promoting recovery and wellness to transitional housing for their clients, will restore the exterior of sunny acres building and completely remodel the interior into 13 studio units and reform the landscape for community activities space and public use area. There are also given the additional resident building with 14 new studio units that will blend with the new design.
Our client, TMHA, had planned this project for a while, they helped many people whom need special help, found secure permanent housing in the cases. We had several meetings with TMHA, future users, and neighbors of the site. Every people gave us important suggestions and opinions that made this project to complete.
Statement
The SLO Wellness Oasis aims to investigate and challenge ideas of private and public residential community space within the framework of a once abandoned Romanesque style brick-building on the eastern edge of San Luis Obispo city in California. Through ingenious regrades topography, the careful selection of native plants and the insertion of unique architectural elements, a new journey of paths and spaces was created that range from the public area to private space.
